Today, Lord Mandelson, Secretary of State for Business Innovation and Skills, announced the creation of a National Skills Academy for Railway Engineering. This initiative has been passionately championed by music and railway industry entrepreneur, Pete Waterman, who has worked tirelessly for the past three years to make this happen. Pete said, “I couldn’t be more pleased that the government has formally recognized the compelling need to invest in the training of the current and future generation of workers in this strategically important industry. I am now fully focused on bringing the benefit of this initiative to Crewe where I am working with key local and national stakeholders to open a major Skills Academy in the town”.

As most of you know, this year has seeen me the busiest I’ve been for a long time what with the National Apprenticehsip Scheme, Eurovision and the start of the model railway show season and losing Helen for a week with a broken leg, it will not be possible this year to do the planned Railnuts event at Swindon on April 10th. The good news is that this will give us a little more time to organise next year when I will definitely not be doing Eurovision

As you will know we had twenty apprentices start the first week in Jan. Well we had a foot of snow, days when it was 8 below ,so here we are at the end of the second week and heres some photo. I have to say that even with these appalling conditions they have not lost any time and are already to send
